Keratoconus

Keratoconus is a corneal disease in which the regular shape of the cornea becomes more conical and it starts becoming thinner as well.

This change in shape and thickness leads to disturbances in vision.

In early stages these vision disturbances can be corrected by prescription glasses.

But as the Keratoconus advances and the cornea becomes more conical and thinner, the vision cannot be corrected by glasses alone and may need special contact lenses to see clearly.

Corneal Collagen Crosslinking is currently the only proven treatment to stop further progression of this disease.

Dr Nagpal has been a pioneer in starting the CXL procedure with the original IROC Switzerland machine in 2006-2007 in Ahmedabad , India.

Moreover in 2017 , we procured India’s first , PXL Platinum Crosslinking system from Switzerland for Customised CXL / C3R with eye tracking system and variable energy modulation.

In very advanced Keratoconus , we need to replace the thin cornea with a corneal transplant .

Nowadays the preferred surgery for Advanced Keratoconus is a Lamellar Keratoplasty ( DALK) .

Dr Ashish Nagpal has over 13 years experience of doing Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK)  in Keratoconus and he has conducted  instruction courses on  Lamellar Keratoplasty in Europe, Turkey ,China and many National Meetings in India.

Speciality Contact lenses like Rose K, Mini Scleral Lens, Kerasoft or Scleral Lens are also available to offer sharper vision to many of our Keratoconus patients .
